(deadline for registration: 28 February 2006)
This is a limited participation (6-7 registrants), low cost, high quality informative tour of the Bonhoeffer sites in Germany with special emphasis upon the Berlin area. In Berlin we visit the Bonhoeffer House (Marienburger Allee 43), the state archives (where DB's writings are preserved), the House of the Final Solution, St. Anne Church and the Martin Niemoller house in Dahlem, Tegel Prison (DB here from 5 April 43 - 8 October 44), Prinz Albrecht Strasse (the Gestapo Prison - DB here October 44 - February 45), Plotzensee Prison, two Plotzensee Churches, St. Matthew Church (DB ordained here), Zion Church (DB's Catechism class), Dorotheen Cemetery and 20 Juli Memorial (the former Wehrmacht headquarters).
In Germany we visit Zingst, the Barmen Church in Wuppertal (the site of the Barmen Confession), Buchenwald KZ (DB here 7 February - 3 April 1945), Paul Schneider Church in Weimar, Paul Schneider sites in the Hunsruck, Schwabisch Hall, Dachau KZ, Benedictine monastery in Ettal (DB here winter of 1940-41), Nuremberg and Flossenburg KZ (DB executed 9 April 45).
In Poland, we will see the site of the Finkenwalde seminary in Stettin and the sites of the Collective Ministry. We also visit Patzig where Dietrich and Maria von Wedemeyer would have been married.
A major emphasis, beyond the sites, is the PEOPLE who meet with our groups, as their schedules permit: Renate Bethge (widow of Eberhard Bethge and niece of DB), Agnes von Hase (widow of Hans Christoph, DB's cousin), Ruth Alice von Bismarck (sister of Maria and granddaughter of Ruth von Kleist-Retzow), Konstantin von Kleist-Retzow (cousin of Maria), Hermann Niemoller (son of Martin Niemoller), Renate Wind (Bonhoeffer scholar), and the pastors at the Bonhoeffer House, St. Matthew Church, Zion Church and Tegel Prison. Renate Obst of the Konsistorium in Berlin provides major assistance. Pastor Piotr Gas is a most gracious and helpful host at the Lutheran Church & Bonhoeffer Guest House in Szczecin (Stettin), Poland.
These arrangements include a registrant's fee paid to DB Ministry and Travel Service with auto rental and gasoline shared equally by the registrants. Each person pays his/her own food and room expense.
Call, e-mail or write today for more information and cost estimates. Early registration suggested!
